    Description

This sale is for a vintage presentation award that has a wooden handle and a brass head in the shape of an ax. It also has a brass end which appears to resemble the hoof of an animal.  Online records of the US census show that Lottie Downs was born in 1908.  This piece is engraved "PRESENTED TO GREAT POCAHONTA'S LOTTIE DOWNS BY MANAIUNG COUNCIL NO. 275 D OF P AT PHILADELPHIA PA. MAY 16, 1951" on the front of the curved brass blade. The degree of Pocahontas, the women's auxiliary of the improved Order of Red Men, is a national fraternal organization that was established in 1885 and was popular across the US. The Order of Red Men Museum is now in Waco, Texas. This award measures 13 inches in length and 4 1/2 inches in width across the top. The engraving has some clouding from the photo only. Study the pictures carefully as there are no returns. This seller does not ship internationally.
