It was designated as the seat of Washington Parish on February 10, 1821 just two years after that parish was created. In 1826 the town’s name was change to Franklinton, since Louisiana already had a town named Franklin in St. Mary parish. The town was officially incorporated in 1861. This city pin was presented to distinguished guests and visitors during the later 1980s to early 1990s.
